As soon as you think you may be pregnant ring the surgery and ask for a phone consultation with a GP. Ideally this needs to be before 10 weeks. They will arrange all the necessary paperwork for you and talk you through the important information you need to know about your antenatal care . Alternatively you can simply fill in the self referral form but remember this is only for West Herts and not for the Luton and Dunstable maternity unit.
That first 12 weeks is especially important as it’s when you’re baby is developing. A useful guide about what to eat and how to stay well in pregnancy can be found here
If you are under The West Herts Maternity team, and you have a pregnancy related problem, you call call them 24/7 on 01923 217343
NHS have a new service called Start For Life .You simply sign up and they’ll regularly e mail you all the information that’s likely to help you through your pregnancy, birth and parenthood.
